Behind the logo
Every year, the fashion design department works with a graphic design major to create all the branding materials for the year’s fashion show. This year, junior Cameryn Richards was selected to create Fashion ’16’s logo after an interview with Roberta Gruber, head of the department of design. Lots of time and energy was spent perfecting the logo for the show. We had the chance to speak with Richards about the entire process of creating all branding material for Fashion ’16.

Red Carpet Review: Met Gala 2016
The Metropolitan Museum of Art was filled with celebrities, models, fashion designers and journalists during the Met Gala May 2. Every year, the Met Gala celebrates and welcomes a new exhibition curated by Andrew Bolton. This year’s exhibition, named “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology,” celebrates “how fashion designers are reconciling the handmade and the machine-made in the creation of haute couture and avant-garde ready-to-wear,” according to the museum’s official website.

Beauty Guide: Glossier
Emily Weiss, founder of beauty website Into The Gloss, launched a makeup and skincare line named Glossier in October of 2014. As a former employee at Teen Vogue, Vogue and W magazine, Weiss quit the fashion editorial industry to launch her own website and beauty company. Since then, Glossier has created over ten products, ranging from skin tints to moisturizing face masks. The line is incredibly curated at its highest quality, and provides skincare and makeup products that create a healthy, glowy and dewy complexion. The line has also garnered lots of attention from magazines including Marie Claire, Allure and The Huffington Post and, in 2015, Weiss was also selected as part of Forbes magazine’s 30 under 30 list because of the huge impact both Into The Gloss and Glossier had on the beauty industry.

Red carpet review: Oscars 2016
Every year, the Academy Awards ceremony takes place at Los Angeles’s Dolby theater, where the film industry celebrates the best actors, actresses, films, directors and more. However, before the ceremony begins is the red carpet event, where the stars get to interact with the press, and pose for the cameras in their suits and gowns. This year, there were a number of stars who stood out from the crowd.

Grace Coddington stepping down at Vogue
Grace Coddington, longtime creative director for American Vogue, will be leaving her position of almost 30 years. First announced by the Business of Fashion Jan. 20. The legendary fashion stylist will take on the role as a creative director instead, as she pursues various projects outside the magazine. Throughout her time at Vogue, Coddington was known for being one of the greatest and strongest forces behind the magazine’s editorial shoots.

Raf Simons leaving Dior
Raf Simons announced Oct. 22 that he is leaving his position as artistic director at Christian Dior. The 47-year-old designer has held the title at the legendary fashion house since 2012, and made his decision to leave “based entirely and equally on my desire to focus on other interests in my life, including my own brand, and the passions that drive me outside of my work,” according to Vanessa Friedman and Elizabeth Paton of The New York Times. The designer is also the founder of his own Belgium-based menswear label, Raf Simons.

Balenciaga Appoints New Artistic Director
French fashion and luxury company Kering announced Oct. 7 that Demna Gvasalia would be taking on the role as artistic director at Balenciaga, days after Alexander Wang took his last bow. Gvasalia is currently the primary designer at Vetements, and will be designing for both fashion houses effective immediately.
