What’s Happening In Philly

The Bathtub Beer Fest

Held in conjunction with the National Constitution Center’s new exhibit, “American Spirits: the Rise and Fall of Prohibition,” join the Bathtub Beer Fest for a unique, sudsy evening that harkens back to America’s darkest, driest chapter: Prohibition. There will be flappers and gangsters and plenty of beer served straight from the bathtub. You’ll enjoy samples of old-fashioned styles and new varieties, too. All attendees receive free admission to the National Constitution Center’s Prohibition exhibit (a $17 value!). This interactive display features hundreds of artifacts from this sad but exciting period. See the saloon-chopping axe wielded by Carrie Nation, a re-creation of an authentic speakeasy, and the first case of beer delivered to Franklin D. Roosevelt upon repeal. You’ll also have the chance to meet Daniel Okrent, the author of “Last Call: the Rise and Fall of Prohibition,” who helped create this one-of-a-kind exhibit. Grab your spats and head straight for this one-of-a-kind beer fest at the spectacular.

Meredith Willson’s “The Music Man”

Celebrate the holiday season with one of the greatest Broadway musicals of all time, “The Music Man!” It’s 1912, and the lovable, fast-talking con man “Professor” Harold Hill arrives in River City, Iowa, promising the townsfolk that he can teach the town’s children how to play in a magnificent marching band if they buy uniforms and instruments from him. It’s all part of a big swindle, but falling in love with the town librarian wasn’t part of the deal. With classic tunes that include “Ya Got Trouble,” “Goodnight My Someone,” “Till There Was You” and the show-stopping “Seventy-Six Trombones,” “The Music Man” is an irresistible, all-American musical for the entire family!

The 15,000-square-foot exhibition takes visitors on a chronological journey through the life of Titanic, from the building of the legend to life on board. The Exhibition has been designed with a focus on the compelling human stories as best told through authentic artifacts and extensive room re-creations.
