1812 Productions presents “To Fool The Eye”

Have a few laughs with “To Fool The Eye,” the latest work of 1812 Productions. Like a fairy tale heroine, Amanda, a poor hatmaker from Paris, is summoned to a chateau by an eccentric duchess. She has but one task: to make the duchess’ forlorn nephew forget about the death of his great love — the divine Leocadia. But Amanda soon finds she isn’t the only one playing a part, as, from every corner, layers of reality literally fall away to reveal that the trick of true love is no trick at all.

“To Fool The Eye” is adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher from Jean Anouilh’s “Leocadia.” The play is presented in collaboration with Drexel University’s Mandell Professionals in Residence Project.

Mandell Theater, 3201 Chestnut St.

“Drawn To Dinosaurs” at the Academy of Natural Sciences

The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University was the first in the world to create a mounted dinosaur skeleton for display, and to this day the Academy is known as “the dinosaur museum.” “Drawn to Dinosaurs: Hadrosaurus foulkii” is an intimate exhibit that reveals the science and art of visualizing a living animal based on fragmentary fossils. The centerpiece is a full cast of the plant-eating duckbill dinosaur, Hadrosaurus foulkii, discovered in 1858 in Haddonfield, N.J., by an Academy member and later reconstructed by artist Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins based on Academy research.

Academy of Natural Sciences, 1900 Benjamin Franklin Parkway

Philadelphia Youth Orchestra at the Kimmel Center

Join the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra as it presents the first of two concerts at the Kimmel Center in celebration of its 73rd anniversary season. Led by Maestro Louis Scaglione, PYO will perform Dvorak’s Carnival Overture, a work that profoundly exudes Slavonic dance and celebration yet seems to weep with joy and melancholy. Gloria de Pasquale, distinguished cellist with The Philadelphia Orchestra, will join PYO in a performance of one of the most popular concerti of Franz Joseph Haydn. The orchestra will then perform Bruckner’s “Romantic” symphony, his Symphony No. 4, which represents one of Bruckner’s most profound symphonic masterpieces.
