A miscommunication resulted in the University President Constantine Papadakis's "Welcome Back" letter not making it to the print version of the Sept. 23 edition of The Triangle.

Papadakis submitted his letter to former editor-in-chief Chris Duffy, instead of to current EIC Chirag Desai. The Triangle received the letter the day of publication from an e-mail forwarded to the EIC from Duffy.

The letter submitted by Papadakis appears below:

Welcome to Drexel University!

Another exciting academic year is beginning, and I would like to welcome new members of our community and extend greetings to all students, faculty and staff. The University has continued to enhance our academic programs, our options for service and our campus life.

The academic achievements of our student body are as impressive as they have ever been, bolstered by Drexel's most talented freshman class. Our 2,150 freshman students had an average SAT score of 1214 and include 26 high school valedictorians and 19 salutatorians; the more than 400 freshmen enrolled in the Pennoni Honors College averaged 1370 on the SAT and had a high school GPA of 4.06.

Drexel continues to make a difference in our Philadelphia neighborhood. We are in the second year of our partnership with the School District of Philadelphia to bring Drexel resources into University City High School and its feeder schools. Drexel students, faculty and staff provide these schools with assistance that includes tutoring, co-curricular development and IT support. If you want to become involved in this or any of our worthwhile service programs, a good place to start is the Drexel University Center for Civic Engagement. Visit http://www.drexel.edu/cce for more information.

We continue to improve our three campuses, opening outstanding new facilities each year. Housing options on our Center City Hahnemann campus have been upgraded with the renovation of Stiles Hall. On the University City Main Campus, the impressive Bossone Research Enterprise Center, designed by I.M. Pei, has risen quickly and will open during this academic year.

Our success in fulfilling our University's mission is evident in the continued growth of our reputation. Drexel improved by 17 places in the ranking of "America's Best Colleges 2005" published by U.S. News & World Report, and Drexel and Penn remain the only Philadelphia universities (and two of six in Pennsylvania) on the list of best national doctoral universities.

I encourage you to explore our campuses, programs, clubs and activities and take advantage of the many opportunities Drexel has to offer. With the University's continued expansion, the range of fulfilling educational and social experiences at Drexel is limitless.

Best wishes for a fulfilling and successful academic year.

Constantine Papadakis, Ph.D.
University President
