Website-o-rama update: UnderMars.com draws fire

A few weeks ago we reviewed undermars.com, a website that is basically an archive of photos taken by soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. Apparently, the fellow who runs it has been getting more and more flak over the site, despite the fact that there's no hint of opinion or bias on it. They're just photos, but he's gotten hatemail by the ton, death threats by the pound, and a few half-hearted hacking attempts.
To clear the air, the guy that runs the site is not a soldier. He's not American either, he's a Canadian. For whatever reason, people send him photos from the front line, and he decided to post them because people need to see the reality of war.
There is some gore, of course. If you think you're going to see pictures from a warzone that don't involve the occasional gashed-up leg or exploded face, you're wrong. But these only make up a small fraction of the pictures on the site, and they're not what the guy's getting hatemail about.
Obviously, we're not going to print anything too terribly gory, but this is a pretty good cross section of photos from the site. It's what statisticians would call a "representative sample," I suppose.
So you decide: are these the sort of things you'd kill someone over? Let us know. Ed-op@thetriangle.org
And in case you don't see the huge red warning on the site: enter at your own risk. If you've got a delicate stomach, reconsider.
