The Undergraduate Student Government Association held its first meeting with the newly elected officers June 20 focusing heavily on its strategic plan for the year ahead.
USGA President Michael Andescavage opened the meeting with an icebreaker designed to entertain the new officers and get them to know one another. He then gave an introductory speech encouraging them on the importance and role that the government plays for the student body at this University. After a few other small agenda items, Andescavage spent the remainder of the meeting discussing the strategic plan.
"The strategic plan was a collaboration between a few members within the USGA," Andescavage said. "I introduced it to the rest of the government for additional feedback, additions, and suggestions. The strategic plan will be practiced effectively when there are no pressing issues present. We will then be able to focus on an item from the plan and not stay idle. This is a living document, and will change accordingly. If someone has a new idea, we'll add it to the list."
A public version of their strategic plan will soon be released on their website highlighting a wide variety of topics stated in the strategic plan ranging from student organizations to academics to USGA organizational matters.
"It's a way of communicating to the students to show them that our organization actually does something," Andescavage said.
With intent to better serve the student organizations, the USGA plans to work with the Campus Activities Board in hosting the upcoming Student Organization Leadership Summit and monthly open forum meetings for student organizational leaders to attend. Using the strengths and skills of both organizations, the USGA hopes that this event will have better success than the previous ones.
The USGA is in the process of fixing and releasing a server which will be devoted to student organizations. "Each student organization will be permitted to have a http://www.drexel.org/student_organization alias rather than their current website addresses on the existing student organization servers which can be funky," Vice President of USGA Micah Garnett said.
