Director was appointed Provost for the University after a nationwide search March 23. He leaves the University of Michigan, where he was Dean of Engineering, where he began in 1996.

Among Director's responsibilies include oversight of faculty and curriculum at the University's eight colleges and three schools, including the largest private undergraduate engineering program in the country.

Director takes over from Ali Houshmand, who has served as Interim Provost since former Provost Harvill Eaton resigned 18 months ago. At townhall meetings held April 11 to introduce Director to faculty, staff and students, Director stated that he would like to visit all departments, their faculty and students, continue Houshmand's work by meeting with students and student leaders on campus, and set up open hours for students to meet him once he took office.
