The Student Resource Center and the Office of Financial Aid merged into one unit keeping academic and financial issues under one office July 1.

The primary reason for this move occurred due to University administrators noticing a parallel associated with students' academic and financial issues, according to John DiNardo who served as one of the organizers behind this move.

The University hopes to increase student satisfaction by combining the two offices so that the needs of the students can be addressed quickly and efficiently.

Under the leadership of Antoinette Torres, who served as the former executive director of SRC, great advances were made under her leadership. She also served as a focal element in increasing the quality of service delivered to students.

Torres will now hold the title of Executive Director of Retentions in the Provost's office where she will oversee Academic Operations including academic policy development and implementation.

"The Center will work on campus to provide information and training in a timely manner to enable students to complete important processes such as applying for financial aid and registering for classes," Melissa Englund, the new executive director of the two merged offices, said. The University hopes that this move will be a great stride in improving its administrative services.

The newly merged unit will report to Vice President for Enrollment Management Joan McDonald, who now also holds the title of Associate Vice Provost for Academic Management.

With regards to the merger Englund comments, "combining services will allow us to offer more streamlined and efficient service to students and is very much in line with the Students First initiative." She wants students to be well informed about their rights and responsibilities when it comes to academic and financial regulations.

Englund has also expressed her intentions on improving the Center in a similar fashion to Torres' efficient manner of running it under her tenure.

She is well prepared to oversee the new office having worked for the University for 16 years.

In her time here Englund has gained valuable experience in dealing with a number of issues concerning billing, registration, and financial aid.
