The new release from As Tall As Lions is extremely close to a masterpiece. Their self-titled album is extremely catchy and equally passionate. The work is a huge step up from their previous album. The album, which showcases ten new songs by the band (eleven if you count the hidden track), focuses on love. The sound is reminiscent of Coldplay mixed with '60s and '70s rock like The Police. Daniel Nigro, the band's lead vocalist, boasts a smooth, soulful voice that includes impressive range, with an amazing falsetto that he is not afraid to use. The instrumentals on the album are extremely tight and carefully planned to match the overall feel of the album. The band also uses many ambient noises on the album; the barely noticeable tiny sounds give the album an artistic edge. The songs are extremely well-written, not to mention well-recorded.

The album has four particularly memorable songs. It opens with an extremely soulful song with an impressive use of horns that builds perfectly and ends leaving you wanting more. The second song leads into the rest of the album with a quicker, driving beat. The fourth song, the single "Love Love Love," is the highlight of the album. This song is the hookiest of all the songs on the album. The album ends with a hidden track that is good enough to be "officially" on the album.

This band is bound to be lumped into the indie-rock scene and, most likely, has a long way to go before they reach stardom status. As Tall As Lions has an extremely impressive live show that they have been developing for years to go along with their new album. With a lot of touring, they should be on their way to stardom soon. Keep an eye out for As Tall As Lions, to be released on Triple Crown Records Sept. 26.
