LaundryView fixes some common frustrations with the laundry process.

"A student from the 15th floor in Towers lugs their laundry down to the 2nd floor only to find all of the machines are in use," Plummer said. "With all of its features, LaundryView will hopefully save time for our students."

The entire upgrade process was competed within budget and on schedule.

"All of the new equipment was installed within the agreed-upon time lines," Plummer said. "As per the negotiated partnership with Mac Gray, University Housing provided for installation of the network jacks for LaundryView in 37 laundry rooms in the main campus residence halls."

RLO is confident that the new equipment will work without any problems. According to Plummer, the sophistication of these machines does not make them fragile.

"This equipment represents some of the latest technologies available for laundry machines and, at the same time, is manufactured for heavy-duty use," Plummer said. "The equipment is not more susceptible to damage because of these advances.

"In addition to the large capacity and the water and energy savings, since the machines are new, there should be fewer problems and repairs."

LaundryView is available on the Web at no cost to residence hall students. The site is available on Drexel's network and the link is also available at the University Housing Web site. Plummer also said that the 2006-07 housing rates will remain the same and the cost for the student to do a load of laundry remained the same as it was last spring: $1.25 to wash and $1.25 to dry.

Students are pleased with the new equipment and its many benefits.

"I was surprised to find that the washer has a spot for fabric softener," said Gina Limongelli, a freshman majoring in interior design. "Most old washers don't have that."

"I like the fact that they're high-efficiency," said Alan Kriegel, a freshman majoring in graphic design. "But I don't know if the e-mail thing is worth it, since the timer tells you when your wash will be done."
