Lately, the Drexel community is buzzing with news and speculation over the "Untitled James L. Brooks Project" that is being filmed on our campus. Numerous students have dedicated their Facebook and Twitter statuses to celeb-hunting. Paul Rudd, Reese Witherspoon and Owen Wilson have been spotted on our campus. Owen Wilson was seen playing tennis behind 7-Eleven July 27, and a photo was picked up by TMZ a few days later. This kind of A-list exposure is a wonderful thing for Drexel.

Having the Brooks' movie filmed here does not just benefit the administration (though we do wonder for how much money Drexel is renting out the Armory). Any chance that we get to put our University in the public eye increases our chances that people will recognize and look favorably upon our school, which can only make our degrees more valuable.

We have hosted a presidential primary debate that was produced by NBC, scenes from "Transformers 2" have been filmed on our streets, the 2008 Olympic Trials for Table Tennis were held here-the list goes on. We would like to compliment the Drexel Administration for pushing our University into the limelight and garnering national attention for our school.

As students, going to the movies and seeing parts of our campus on the silver screen will surely be an enthralling experience. Having national attention is not just good for the Drexel community-it's good for the greater Philadelphia area as well. Cities like New York and Los Angeles have huge tourism industries due to the cultural relevance of those areas. While Philadelphia has its history as the birthplace of America and its timeless cheesesteaks, its image as a modern cultural hotspot could always use a little boost.

So while your parking spaces are taken over by trucks and trailers, your sidewalks obstructed, and your curiosity piqued by the lack of information surrounding this film, have patience. And if you run into the actors around campus, don't hassle them-but make sure to send us your pictures, videos and anecdotes! We're starting a blog to keep track of the movie excitement at http://blogs.thetriangle.org/starwatch.
