Classical Cabaret Series
Two or three groups of performers, most all from Philadelphia, will present new pieces that have been inspired by one of Shakespeare's plays or another classic story. Mary Tuomanen is a physical theatre artist who continues to experiment with mask work, puppetry and clown in her piece "Sycorax," an imagined prologue to "The Tempest." Nationally acclaimed award-winning composer Melissa Dunphy will be presenting a 20-minute song cycle titled, "Tesla's Pigeon." Swim Pony is presenting "Lady M," an all female re-interpretation of "Macbeth." "The Dispute Derived," from Pierre De Marivaux's "La Dispute," is re-imagined by Emmanuelle Delpech, classically trained at the Ecole Superieur d'Art Dramatique de la ville de Paris. Wandering Rom, brings "Visions of Hecate," inspired by the writings of William Blake. From Brooklyn, Blue Box Productions offer "Dive," a piece that sources texts from "A Midsummer Night's Dream." Also from Brooklyn, "The Egg-Layers" is a work that is inspired by Euripides, Yeats, Shakespeare and more, exploring the gorgeous journey of creation. And finally, Blue Riders will present "The Girl Who Shared His Room," inspired by Chekhov's "Anyuta."

The Great Divorce
C.S. Lewis' own favorite among his works, "The Great Divorce" tells the satirical and comic story of hapless professor Clive and the motley band of malcontents who join him on a very curious bus ride. Journeying between Heaven and Hell, Clive crosses a wildly inventive landscape filled with dazzling language and surprising insight. Philadelphia City Paper says: "Unmissable! From the quiet, seemingly casual beginning to the unforgettable final moments, Lawton has us in the palm of his hand." Adapted and performed by Anthony Lawton.
