Designer Profile: LeGrand Leseur
When we envision a well-dressed man in a nicely tailored suit, that suit would typically be in black or in an unexpected neutral color. However, one local Philadelphia designer is changing the way we envision that garment. 24-year-old LeGrand Leseur is creating tuxedos that push the limits of what we know when it comes to the classic number. With bold colors, attention to detail and innovative designs, Leseur is taking what we know about tuxedos and creating something totally new and exciting.

Pearlstein Gallery Presents Immortal Beauty
The Robert and Penny Fox Historic Costume Collection opened their latest exhibition, Immortal Beauty, on Oct. 2 at the Leonard Pearlstein Gallery. The exhibition, and includes over 75 garments and accessories by legendary designers such as Gabrielle Chanel, Halston, Christian Dior, Mary Quant and Cristobal Balenciaga to name a few and was made possible by generous donations from the Richard C. von Hess Foundation. The exhibition is displayed in a retrospective layout, where audience members can view the Costume Collection’s highlights from over more than 300 years.

The Different Perspectives of Fashion: An Inside Scoop on the Fashion Show
Kristy Jost’s work thus far has encompassed exploration of non-traditional and technologically advanced materials used for garment construction. She collaborates with the college of engineering (the A. J. Drexel Nanotechnology Institute and the Nanophotonics Group with head of the fashion department Genvieve Dion) to work on “smart clothes.” Her goal is to produce electronic textiles and clothes that are technologically forward, functional, wearable and pleasing to the eye. It is no surprise that one of her favorite designers is Chalayan Heussein, who focuses on creating beautiful transforming garments on the runway with the use of hundreds of wires to control them. This intelligent individual plans to begin her Ph.D. in materials science at Drexel University and continue her work on technologically advanced garments and textiles.

Museum of Arts hosts Italian fashion favorite
Renowned Italian designer Roberto Capucci's work is known for its structure - his red gown with nine cutaway skirts was inspired by the ripple of a stone skipped in water. The name Roberto Capucci probably doesn’t ring a bell, even if you are fashionably inclined, but thanks to the retrospective at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, he’s soon to be a household name. Capucci’s work goes beyond dressmaking and will enthrall not only design majors, but also architects, engineers and fashionistas. His clothes are a feat of patternmaking and planning, the likes of which most people have never seen.
