Julien Baker sets the Fillmore aflame with Funeral Pyre
I recently learned that The Decemberists have a pretty huge following here in Philly. When the Fillmore announced their April 14 concert with Julien Baker, I did not expect it to sell out so quickly.

If I could live anywhere in Philadelphia, I’d live not in a house or an apartment, but at one of Philly’s newest music venues, the Fillmore.

On May 18, rappers A$AP Ferg and Tory Lanez brought their “Level Up Tour” to the Fillmore. With opener Madeintyo, this was the very first stop on the tour. Despite this being the first stop and the two rappers having worked together only once before, the show was fantastic.

Ben Folds, yMusic leave fans wanting more at Fillmore
Ben Folds played with six-piece classical ensemble yMusic at the Fillmore May 6. Folds is one of my biggest inspirations as a songwriter and piano player, so I was ready to see him tear the roof off what has become one of my favorite large-scale venues in Philly. The last time I saw him was back in 2014, when he played at the Mann Center with the Philadelphia Orchestra, and that show was absolutely incredible. Folds has been a big name in the music scene since the ’90s, and he’s got a pretty impressive discography to show for it.

Dr. Dog plays yet another killer show at the Fillmore
I have seen Dr. Dog perform live five times. That is a lot of times. A lot of people may wonder what kind of magical appeal the band must have in order to get me to keep coming back again and again. It’s hard to put a finger on, exactly. It just happens that Dr. Dog is one of those rare bands that operates on a whole other level as soon as they hit the stage. During the final show of their “Psychedelic Swamp” tour at the Fillmore April 16, Dr. Dog let it all hang out and reaffirmed why I will try to see them any and every time they come back home to Philadelphia.

Philly natives Dr. Dog sell out show at Fillmore with Hop Along
It’s not often that you see a dad navigate his way through throngs of concert-goers gathered by the front barrier to track down his teenage daughter. Most dads would just make sure their kids were doing okay and hang by the back bar until the concert was over. But when Dr. Dog is the band taking the stage, who can blame the guy for getting front and center? The local group played an incredible St. Patrick’s Day show at a jam-packed Fillmore in Fishtown.
