Local indie rockers RFA party it up at PhilaMOCA
If you haven’t heard of Philadelphia-based alternative band RFA, I highly suggest becoming familiar with them while they are still a primarily local band. Personally, I sometimes have a difficult time enjoying a show when I do not have much knowledge on the band or their songs. However, this was not the case for me when attending RFA’s recent show at PhilaMOCA.

PhilaMOCA ‘NE’-deep in good tunes, ‘HI’ energy
I have yet to come across a Chicago band I didn’t like. This inkling was proven to be true once again the night of March 28, the night NE-HI played the treasured PhilaMOCA.

Chicago rockers NE-HI to come through PhilaMOCA
Spring is right around the corner and what better way is there to ring in the first week of the season than to bop to the jangly jams of Chicago’s freshest indie rock band, NE-HI?

Steve Gunn, Lee Renaldo get political at PhilaMOCA
Sometimes you can tell by the crowd whether or not a show is going to go over well before it starts. Usually, this intuition is foreboding, but in the case of the Steve Gunn and Lee Ranaldo show at PhilaMOCA Jan. 21, one couldn’t help but be ready to lighten up with some music.

Best music venues in Philly
Philadelphia is a great city to live in if you’re a music fan. The Philly music scene is home to many great bands and plenty of music venues. From small, intimate clubs and bars to large-scale arenas and amphitheaters, Philly is a perfect fit for any musical act that comes through. It’s hard for me to narrow down a definitive list of the “best” concert venues since they vary so greatly that some are hardly comparable, but these are my personal favorites.

‘Old Friends’ reunite at PhilaMOCA as Pinegrove continues world tour
As the rest of the band sets up and prepares to play, Evan Stephens Hall walks on the stage at PhilaMOCA. He wears the look of an unabashed man, sporting his own band’s T-shirt tucked into what can only be described as ’70s jogging shorts (you know, the kind Michael Cera wears in “Juno”). The man that first came off as a goof turned out to not only be sincere, but smart. He was, afterall, dressing for a sold out crowd at a venue without air conditioning.

Beach Slang and Hurry play at intimate PhilaMOCA
Everyone might have dreamed of having their favorite band play a concert in their own living room. You’d get to sit on your own couch, have snacks and drinks at the ready. It would be awesome. Unfortunately, unless you win one some kind of sweepstakes contest, it’s probably not going to happen for you. But not to fear, there is a pretty decent alternative right here in our fair city. Down on 12th and Spring Garden Streets there sits the Philadelphia Mausoleum of Contemporary Art. The venue is about as close to a living room show as you are going to get and it held the passionate up and coming Philly punk band Beach Slang July 27.
