Women’s lacrosse pulls upset against No. 11 Penn
Senior midfielder Kelli Joran scored a hat trick on three shots in Drexel’s 11-8 win over No. 11 Penn at Franklin Field Feb. 23.For the first time since 1993, the Drexel University women’s lacrosse team defeated the rival University of Pennsylvania. The win was even sweeter with the Quakers being ranked 11th in the nation.

Softball starts off season with back-to-back losses in Charlotte Classic
Junior center fielder Comfort Ahonkhai throws in a relay from the warning track in the outfield. Ahonkhai was the leadoff hitter in both games against Charotte and went 2-6 with one walk, one HBP, one RBI and one run.The Drexel University softball team kicked off its season with back-to-back losses Feb. 15 against The University of North Carolina at Charlotte. The Dragons saw early leads slip away in both losses.

M. basketball wins Battle of 33rd St.
The Drexel University men’s basketball team earned its first win of the season Nov. 17 against the rival University of Pennsylvania 61-59. However, the Dragons were unable to carry that momentum into the DirecTV Classic, losing two of their three games.

Field hockey ousted by Princeton
The Drexel field hockey team’s miraculous season came to an end Nov. 10 with a tough loss in the first round of the NCAA Tournament against Princeton University. The Dragons fell to the No. 2 Tigers 5-0 in a game that saw Princeton score goals in the second half. The unceremonious end to the season is overshadowed by a pair of impressive program firsts: the first automatic bid to the national tournament and the first Colonial Athletic Association championship.

Field hockey crowned CAA champs
For the first time in program history, the Drexel University field hockey team has won the Colonial Athletic Association championship. The top-seeded Dragons defeated second-seeded Northeastern University Nov. 4 in dramatic fashion by a score of 2-1 in overtime at Buckley Field. Sophomore forward Christina Conrad scored the game-winning goal off a pass from senior midfielder Amanda Fleischut with 11:17 remaining in overtime.

Field hockey enters CAA tournament on win streak
Junior midfielder Lindsay McArdle knocks down the ball in a match against Delaware Oct. 19 at Buckley Field. Despite a goal from the star midfielder, the Dragons fell to the Blue Hens 4-2. McArdle currently leads Drexel’s offense with 11 goals in 19 games played this season.The Drexel field hockey team will host this year’s Colonial Athletic Association Tournament as the top seed, earning them a first-round bye. The Dragons will face the winner of the University of Delaware-College of William & Mary match Nov. 3. Drexel finished the season with a 13-6 record overall and a 5-2 record within the CAA.

M. basketball voted CAA favorite
For the second consecutive year, the Drexel University men’s basketball team has been projected to win the Colonial Athletic Association regular-season title. The selection was made by coaches, media relations directors and media members at the CAA basketball preseason Media Day Oct. 16 in Arlington, Va. In addition, two Dragons were given personal honors.

Field hockey drops to No. 18 in NCAA coaches poll

McArdle has eight goals and 19 points on the season for the Dragons.Before Oct. 12, the Drexel University field hockey team was 4-2 against ranked opponents and had a chance to make a statement against the then-No. 11 University of Iowa. The then-No. 15 Dragons (11-5, 3-1 Colonial Athletic Association) fell to the Hawkeyes (10-4, 3-1 Big Ten) in a lopsided 3-1 loss. The loss marked just the second time that the Dragons were defeated in back-to-back games this season after losing Oct. 7 to No. 9 Old Dominion University. Just two days later, the Dragons traveled to New York City to face Columbia University (8-5, 3-1 Ivy League). Drexel bounced back from its short losing skid, downing the Lions 1-0.

Men’s basketball releases entire 2012-13 schedule
Junior point guard Frantz Massenat will lead the Dragons through a non-conference schedule that includes a matchup with Davidson College Dec. 22 at the DAC.The Drexel men’s basketball team will kick off its season Nov. 9 against Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. The Dragons will play their home opener Nov. 15 against Illinois State University, and just two days later, Drexel will face its 33rd Street rival, the University of Pennsylvania.

DU soccer’s Chapman, Pataia receive CLEAR honors
Sophomore defender Melissa Chapman scored a goal in each of the Dragons’ first two CAA matches this week. She now leads the team with three on the season.Drexel Athletics named two soccer players as CLEAR Players of the Week for their performance the weekend of Sept. 21. Sophomore midfielder Michele Pataia won the honors for the men’s team, and sophomore defender Melissa Chapman received the honors for the women’s team.
