Athlete of the week: diver David Sanchez
With the diving season coming to a close, men’s diver David Sanchez has made the most of his four years as a Drexel University athlete. Being named “Athlete of the Week” for the week of Feb. 17-23 was only one of his accomplishments. Sanchez’s journey started off in Florida, when his mother registered Sanchez and his four younger brothers for free swimming and diving classes at the local high school. “I enjoyed it so much, I signed up for the diving club when we moved to Atlanta, Georgia,” Sanchez said. Drexel University women’s lacrosse player Nadia Pelham-Lacey started off the 2016 spring season strong, helping the team with grab a win against American University and now by being recognized as “Athlete of the Week” for the week of Feb. 10-16. During the game, the redshirt sophomore had two goals and four assists against American. Last season, Pelham-Lacey earned the second place spot on the Drexel’s lacrosse team for most goals (18 total). With only five league games remaining, the Drexel University women’s basketball team has been maintaining their successful overall league record (9-4). Women’s basketball player Meghan Creighton was named “Athlete of the Week” Feb. 3-9 for to her contributions to the team’s success. Drexel University senior Tavon Allen hit an all-time-high in his collegiate basketball career Jan. 30 in the game against Hofstra University, making him the “Athlete of the Week.” During homecoming weekend, Allen scored 33 points against Hofstra, raising his cumulative score to 1,126, tied for 24th place on Drexel University’s all-time scoring list with former player Bashir Mason.
