While fall term may just be hitting its midpoint, Drexel men’s soccer’s season is coming to a conclusion.. The men’s team has eight wins, five losses and two ties across all competitions this season. With13 points in the conference standings, the Dragons are in possession of 4th place due to their latest win against the Delaware Blue Hens (2-1) last Friday night. So far this season, the men’s team has had four wins, two losses and one tie in conference games. At home, they are 4-1 and, overall, they are 8-5-2.

The men’s team this year is well decorated, with several of their players winning Dragon of the Week, as well as Conference Player of the Week. Among these players, graduate Dominick Bachstein stands out as he just recently has been named Top Drawer Soccer Midseason Top 100 for the 2024 season and is ranked in the No. 52 position in the CAA.

Freshman Gavin Carmichael was named Top Drawer Soccer’s Midseason Top 100 Freshman for the 2024 season at No. 77 on the list. Carmichael has shown to be a valuable asset to the Dragons as he has started in nine out of 11 matches this season and has scored two goals across 814 minutes of play.

DefenderIsaiah Whittaker-Francis was also named Dragon of the Week after assisting the first goal the team scores and scoring his first goal of the season against the Delaware Blue Hens, securing the Dragons their win. This win kept the team’s momentum going as they barrel towards  postseason play.

In their penultimate match, the Dragons took on Villanova in a contentious game that saw Villanova men’s soccer coach Mark Fetrow taking on the Drexel program that he was at the head of just a few months ago. In the 57th minute, Villanova’s Jason Bouregy capitalized on a defensive breakdown in the Drexel 18-yard box to put the Wildcats up 1-0. In the 68th minute, Nova’s O’Neil Dawes was shown a red card, leaving Villanova down one man for the rest of the match.

The Dragons were able to capitalize on this advantage with a 82nd minute equalizer from freshman Sebastian Perez-Gasiba. Drexel goaltender Raphael Bartell contributed a career-high eight saves to keep the game in check for the Dragons.

This coming Saturday, the Dragons will face the Charleston Cougars at Vidas Field at 1:00 p.m.
