The Drexel University men’s and women’s crew teams both participated in the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta in Philadelphia Oct. 29 and the Princeton Chase in Princeton, New Jersey Oct. 30.

The women’s team had a particularly successful outing during the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta, with both its varsity eight and its second varsity eight taking second place in their respective races. In the varsity eight race, the Dragons edged Fordham University by just over five seconds to claim second place in a field of 15 teams, finishing behind only the University of Pennsylvania. Despite posting a 15:28.750, which was better than Drexel’s varsity eight time of 15:32.570, the Dragons’ second varsity also came in behind Penn for second in a field of 56.

On the men’s side for the Head of Schuylkill Regatta, the freshman eight and the second varsity eight had strong showings.

The freshman eight finished less than ten seconds behind Princeton University to take second place in a field of 36. In the second varsity eight race, the Dragon’s finished behind two Penn teams and took third place in a field of 48 boats. Drexel’s varsity eight also finished in fifth place in its race.

Unfortunately for both the men’s and women’s teams, the success they had on Saturday, Oct. 29 did not carry over to the Princeton Chase Oct. 30. During the Princeton chase, Drexel’s men’s varsity finished 17th in a field of 44, which was the highest finish of a Drexel boat during the event. The women’s varsity eight managed to finish 25th in a field of 59.

Next up for both the men’s and the women’s teams is a race at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey Nov. 6.
