Senator Bernie Sanders took to the microphone the evening of April 25 at the Daskalakis Athletic Center (DAC) of Drexel University to promote his bid for the United States presidency. This rally, “A Future to Believe In,” took place one day before the Pennsylvania primary April 26.

Therapy dog leaves Drexel
Jan. 7 marked the last day of work for Jersey, the therapy dog employed at the Daskalakis Athletic Center, who had announced his leave from Drexel University two days prior on his Facebook page.

Mental health kiosk installed in DAC
Drexel University’s Daskalakis Athletic Center now features one of the mental health kiosks dubbed, “MindKare” that were scheduled for installation in January 2015. The kiosk is one of two that were recently installed in city, the second being placed in the Stephen and Sandra Sheller 11th Street Family Health Services Center. Its predecessor was installed at the Fox Chase Philadelphia ShopRite clinic. Drexel is now the first university in the nation to have any such kiosk where students can have the state of their mental health evaluated.

Indego bike share opening on campus next week
The Daskalakis Athletic Center has long been a place where students can work out on exercise bikes in the gym, but starting April 23, an Indego bike share station will officially open outside the facility on the corner of 33rd and Market streets, allowing students to get their biking fix outside this spring.

Students compete in Recycle Regatta 2015
Two teams of Drexel students raced recycled cardboard boats in the DAC swimming pool at the sixth annual Rec Recycle Regatta Feb. 22. The Recycle Regatta is a yearly environment-friendly competition where students construct boats and paddles made entirely of cardboard and duct tape, and then race them along the pool.

W. basketball downs UD in homecoming game at the DAC
The Drexel University women’s basketball team has shown again that they are on a roll, as they picked up another win at home Jan. 25 against big Colonial Athletic Association rival University of Delaware. The win takes the Dragons to a record of 7-1 at home and 12-7 overall.

Running clinic and research labs open at Center and University campuses
Drexel University faculty members opened a clinic and research lab where runners can have their personal running biomechanics evaluated and injuries rehabilitated, with locations on the Center City and University City campuses.

Daskalakis donation to fund renovations
Drexel alumnus John A. Daskalakis donated $3 million to the Daskalakis Athletic Center already bearing his name to fund renovations scheduled for summer 2012, according to a March 29 Drexel Athletics press release.
