‘Forced Witness:’ Alex Cameron’s bizarre worldview
Self-described as an “online cowboy in the wild-west days of the World Wide Web,” indie rock artist Alex Cameron is slated to release his second full-length album with fellow musician, saxophonist Roy Molloy. “Forced Witness,” produced by Foxygen’s Jonathan Rado (who also produced Whitney’s “Light Upon The Lake” and the Lemon Twigs’ “Do Hollywood”), will be released through Secretly Canadian Sept. 8.

Asbury Park gets taste of Chicago with Whitney
Aug. 10 was the perfect night for a Whitney concert in Asbury Park, New Jersey. The temperature was just right and the light upon Deal Lake was nothing short of breathtaking. With the mood so right, one could almost feel a magnetic pull in the air coming from the House of Independents (not to be confused with the Stone Pony, where Switchfoot and Lifehouse were playing that night).

The Family Crest puts on eccentric Boot & Saddle show
If you’ve ever listened to the music of the Family Crest, the term “bar-band” is likely to be the last thing on your mind. Yet, that is where they found themselves positioned May 10, playing to a crowd of 80 or so in the back room of South Philly’s Boot & Saddle. It was the strange combination of venue and band that first interested me in attending this show.

‘This Old Dog’ marks change of pace for indie icon Mac DeMarco
I can’t quite put my finger on how Mac DeMarco became such a beloved staple of indie rock. He never quite grabbed me with his music (not yet, at least), but I can’t deny he’s got a certain charm. He’s probably the only artist who I’ve watched more interviews of than actual videos of his performances. He’s likely the goofiest dude in the whole world.

Alexandra Savior releases strikingly beautiful debut
I haven’t been this impressed by an artist’s debut album in a while. When I first heard Alexandra Savior’s single “Mirage,” I fell in love with the track. After that, I decided I should keep tabs on her. I was delighted to find out that she would be releasing her debut album, “Belladonna of Sadness,” April 7 through Columbia Records.
